Making this Chili Seasoning Recipe is a breeze. This spice blend comes together in just a couple of minutes and is perfect for adding to any flavor of chili. Everyone will love the depth of flavor that this easy recipe gives.

Remove that store-bought chili packet from your grocery store list, and start making your own seasoning mixes at home. Store-bought packets are full of sodium and unnecessary ingredients, which, in my opinion, is the best part of making my own seasonings.
Having a spice cabinet full of seasonings that I make makes me feel good. I also think that the flavor of this batch of homemade chili seasoning is so much better than anything that those store-bought chili seasoning packets offer!

Top Tip💡
To use this mix, add 2 tablespoons per quart of chili. You can add more to taste for your own personal preference if needed. You will also need to season your chili to taste with extra salt.
Variations
- Salt – You can use sea salt or kosher salt to make this homemade chili seasoning mix.
- Spice preference – The fun thing about making your own homemade chili seasoning recipe is that you can omit or add additional ingredients. Ancho chili powder is one option that people tend to add. You can also add regular paprika if you don’t want to use smoked.

Storage
To store this mix, be sure that you keep it in a jar with a tight-closing lid. You don’t want any air to be getting in and out, or that will dull the flavor of the spices. Store it with your other seasonings at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. There is no need to keep this in the fridge.
I like to make a triple batch of this mix so that I have it on hand at all times. You can also make and give some to family and friends if you’re worried about having too much extra.

Common Questions
I always keep leftover spice bottles and empty containers for this reason. That way, I know that I’m using the best storage container for my spice mix. Just tear off the label and write what’s in it with a permanent marker so there is no confusion.
That’s the great thing about making your own spices. They last a long time as long as they’re stored properly. The best way to tell if a seasoning is good is to smell it. If there is no scent or the scent is barely there, that’s a big clue it’s older and likely not as strong. You’ll also notice that the flavors of your dish are not as intense, either. While there’s no harm in using older spices, they can affect the quality and taste of the dish you’re making.
