Air Fryer Green Beans – Fast and Flavorful

Air Fryer Green Beans are prepped and ready to eat in 10 minutes. This flavorful and easy side dish can be made with fresh or frozen green beans, and pairs well with just about any dinner. It’s a busy weeknight go-to for my family!

One vegetable my entire family can agree on is green beans. Unlike broccoli (so divisive!) green beans are happily devoured by my three young children, husband, and yours truly anytime I serve them as a sidecar to dinner. Our favorite, simple preparation is Air Fryer Green Beans.

Why You’ll Love Air Fryer Green Beans

  • Quick: we’re talking 8 minutes or less from Air Fryer to table with 2 minutes of prep time beforehand. I like to Air Fry the green beans while waiting for our main meal to cool down.
  • Flavorful: Air Frying gives green beans a deep, roasted flavor without having to use the oven.
  • Versatile: this simple side dish pairs well with everything from chicken or steak, to lasagna and pasta!

Easy Healthy Side Dish

While I’d like to say I whip up a fabulous and involved meal every night of the week…LIFE. Am I right? That said, many times dinner takes the shape of the Midwestern dinner trifecta:

This is where Air Fryer Green Beans shine. I’ll get salmon or chicken cooking in the Air Fryer, rice or pasta simmering on the stove, then Air Fry the green beans in 6-8 minutes while the meat is resting and the starch is cooling.

Scoop everything onto a plate then drizzle with some sort of sauce – homemade or bottled (Japanese BBQ Sauce, regular BBQ sauce, etc) – and dinner’s done.

Quick, healthy, and well-balanced too!

Can You Air Fry Frozen Green Beans?

While I personally prefer the texture of fresh green beans (too much frozen vegetable medley as a kid!), yes, you can Air Fry frozen green beans.

Season the frozen green beans the same as fresh then Air Fry for a few minutes longer than if you were using fresh green beans.

How to Make Air Fryer Green Beans

Step 1: Trim the green beans.

Start by trimming 3/4lb (4 cups) fresh green beans. I like to use this handy dandy bag of pre-washed and trimmed green beans, though I still go through and trim off any missed or damaged ends.

Step 2: Season the green beans.

Add the trimmed green beans to a bowl then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and the seasonings of your choice. I almost always opt for Lawry’s Garlic Salt, though plain ol’ salt and pepper is delicious too. I’ll occasionally add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice if I have one on hand!

How Much Seasoning to Use

I find “salty” to be extremely objective and hesitate to provide an exact amount here, but if you’re looking for a place to start, use 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt, kosher, or sea salt per 3/4lb green beans then add more if you’d like. I typically use 3/4 teaspoon Lawry’s Garlic Salt for 3/4lb trimmed green beans.

Step 3: Air Fry the green beans.

Preheat the Air Fryer to 390 degrees, or the closest temperature setting on your model, then transfer the seasoned green beans into the basket using tongs. They can be overlapping and piled on top of each other – totally fine.

Air Fry for 6-8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, or until the green beans are crisp-tender / cooked to your liking.

Cooking Tip

The green beans will continue to soften after removing them from the Air Fryer so I like to pull them when they’re still a little crisp. Totally up to you and how crispy/soft you like your green beans!

I like to serve these green beans piping hot and crisp-tender. As I mentioned, I typically Air Fry the green beans while waiting for cooked meat to rest or the main meal to cool off, so they’re ready to plunk down on a plate at the same time the meal is ready to serve.

I hope you love this EASY and DELICIOUS Air Fryer method for preparing fresh green beans – enjoy!

What to Serve with Air Fryer Green Beans

  • 3/4 lb (4 cups) fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 – 1 teaspoon seasonings: garlic salt, salt and pepper, etc.
  • Preheat your Air Fryer to 390 degrees, or the closest temperature to 390 degrees on your model.

  • Add the trimmed green beans to a medium-size mixing bowl then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and your desired seasonings. I always eye-ball it, but if you’d like a precise measurement, start with 1/2 teaspoon seasoning. Toss with tongs to evenly coat the beans then add them to the basket of the preheated Air Fryer.

  • Air Fry until the green beans are crisp-tender, 6-8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Note: the beans will continue to soften after Air Frying, so I prefer to pull them out when they’re on the crisp side of crisp-tender. Serve immediately.

  • Feel free to use any seasoning or seasoning combination that sounds good to you! I almost always use Lawry’s Garlic Salt though plain salt and pepper is also very delicious. Sometimes I add a small squeeze of fresh lemon juice with the seasoning if I have one on hand.
